Where is your playground?

For both the young and young at heart, playgrounds are an important part of the urban landscape. With an enthusiasm that has proven to be quite contagious, the dynamic duo at Newmindspace are continuing their tradition of taking playful creativity to the streets.

Often focused around a competition of some sort, one such event saw a giant pillow fight at the base of the Eiffel Tower and another led to bubble battles inspired by a Dr Seuss tale. The success of these ventures has made for many repeat happenings as the concept of the Urban Playground evolves. Amongst the elements of their manifesto is to encourage people to abandon the branded consumption experiences like watching television, and replace them with community-based participatory activities.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for the movement. Another pillow fight has been proposed for April 2010, but the one that really has our makedo fingers itching is a giant blanket fort planned for late February in Brooklyn.
Find out more at Newmindspace and get involved if you are lucky enough to live nearby.
