Local resource networks are an important part of developing a waste and reuse conscious society. For over 35 years, Reverse Garbage have been collecting offcuts, end of run items, and various discarded industrial materials. These then become a valuable resource for schools, craft organisations, creative individuals and more. The goal is to decrease human impact on the environment while developing imagination and creativity.

At a recent visit to Melbourne’s Reverse Art Truck, our eyes grew wider with each new aisle. Shelves lined with bright coloured plastics in all shapes and sizes, and tubs filled with rubber, card and foam were only outdone by the neatly stacked piles waiting around the next corner. The diversity is astounding, right down to those infamous cricket ball leather off-cuts. Anyone for a designer fashion accessory?
