These products are rubbish

For Scott Kilmartin, it all started while watching some installers struggling with a vinyl billboard as it flapped about in the wind. With a passion to produce something not only recycled but more importantly design driven, he set out to divert these huge sheets of material from heading straight to landfill.

Gathering a team of clever craftsmen, some nifty thinking and the wise gaze of Gus the Boxer, Melbourne-based Haul now recycles 12 tonnes of discarded material annually. This effort saw them awarded the City of Melbourne B3000 Business of the Year in 2008.
Working with rubber inner tubes, billboard vinyl and old licence plates led to the development of a refined production process. This proven method is now being applied across a diverse range of products. From wallets to messenger bags, document folders to belts and collars (see Gus proudly displaying above) no product looks the same because the source material itself exhibits such variety.
All these hand-made accessories are produced under the proud banner Our Products Are Rubbish.
Head over to the Haul website to see the full range and learn about their recycling story. You’ll also discover how Gus became a calendar star for charity.
