The Sound of Cardboard
Monday, May 16, 2011 at 8:19 AM
Sculptural installations made from cardboard boxes are one thing, but when Swiss-based Zimoun puts all those boxes together, a little something special is added to the mix.

Each box becomes home to a whirling DC motor, and when the installation is activated the space becomes flooded with oscillating visuals and sounds reminiscent of being in a rain shower.
Hundreds of small motors create a gentle cacophony of sound. The following videos show two variations, where small cables and ping-pong balls work to create an immersive experience.
Readers in Bergen, Norway can see Zimoun’s 138 Prepared DC Motors at Lydgalleriet, where it will be on display until June 1. Also currently showing in Romania and Switzerland.
Have you tried to incorporate movement and sound in your makedo creations? As Zimoun shows, with some careful planning even the smallest of motions can have quite an impact.
