WEEKEND PROJECT: Tissue Box Carp

Our Japanese Master Maker Tanaka Satoshi is a creative genius. But what we love about his mastery is that his creations are often simpler than you might think.

With the humblest materials, the fewest Makedo parts and a ‘what if’ imagination, Tanaka makes the most impressive creations that are as simple as can be. The effortless nature of his Makedo creations is what we revere most about this Makedo Master.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing a series of our favourite Makedo creations by Tanaka, each with step by step instructions and using everyday materials you can find around the house.

Now no matter what age you are, you can learn to make like a Master Maker too.

First up, Tanaka’s tissue box carp fish!

Click the image above or follow this link for free printable PDF instructions to get started on some fishy creations.

Upload your Carp creations to be in the running for Makedo’s Maker of the Month competition.

A tree of hope at ECO Park 2011

What better place for a frenzy of makedo activity than at the NHK Global Environmental Campaign at ECO Park 2011 in Shibuya, Tokyo…

Children were invited to a special makedo dojo event where they could build creations and combine them with words of hope that were pinned to the grand tree at the entrance to the activity space.

With bold messages about waste, reuse, and hope for the future, these little makers showed what can be achieved when people join forces to work together.

As well as the frenetic activity and diversity of outcomes, one highlight for us was to see the fantastic cardboard geodesic dome. Watch it come to life in this short video from Tanaka Satoshi.

Donations for Japan

The earthquake and tsunami that struck Eastern Japan on March 11, 2011 has brought forth much heartfelt generosity from across the globe, as we gather to support those directly affected by this recent tragedy.

Through the makedo community, we have nurtured relationships in Japan that have grown in wonderful ways. Now it is our turn to give something back at a time when so much has been taken away.

We hope to be able to help in the best way possible, and we’d like to invite you to donate.
Having weighed the options we have decided to make use of our existing networks in Japan. This will ensure that a speedy delivery of aid can go directly to the local communities where it is needed most.

Donations from makedo will be channelled through our distributors, Entrex, who are keeping strict and public accounting of how the funds are being used.

Thank you for your support.
With much gratitude,

the makedo team.
