Shady transport

This past Summer saw an interesting advertising campaign hit the streets of Milan. The warmth of a leafy tree-lined promenade has been brought back to the style centre of Montenapoleone by Fiat and designer Fabio Novembre.

As collaboration with the Municipality of Milan, these life-size replicas of the Fiat 500C each have a tree planted inside them. The goal was to bring summer shade to a stretch of the sidewalk - and the result was a visual and sensorial transformation. The fibreglass car planters are due to be moved to other locations throughout the city following this initial presence in the glamour heart of Lombardy.
What potential does this open up for further inner-city green interventions, either sanctioned or otherwise? It would be great to see more creativity along these themes. First spotted on Designboom, via PSFK.
