Rent | Share | Be Green with Rentalic

What do you do with your old stuff? You know, those items that have only been used once or twice, yet you can’t bear to part with? The solution may lie in Social Commerce - a movement that is gaining momentum thanks to innovative companies such as Rentalic.

With a goal of encouraging people to save money and reduce consumption, this website facilitates renting at a person to person level. Friends, family and communities can list items or services that are either provided for free or for nominated rates. The reverse also happens, with people able post their needs in the hope that someone local can fill in the gaps to help them along.

We help people who need stuff find people who have stuff…

Much effort has gone into the development of a secure transaction system that can be used from any remote location without internet access. Recognition and praise has come in many forms, including the Grand Award from judges at the Paypal X Developer Challenge contributing to claims that Rentalic now represents the ground zero of social commerce.

This innovative approach empowers people to both make money and save money while promoting a greener lifestyle through reuse. Currently US based, it will be great to see how this idea grows and spreads internationally. Use the Comments Form below to share any info you have about similar opportunities for a more considered ownership in your area.

Rentalic came to us via the ever excitable world of Twitter.

Chat to the guys in person if you’re in the Bay Area this weekend - Rentalic will be at booth 113 at Maker Faire San Mateo California, May 22-23.

Thanks for the excellent article about Rentalic. I am the founder of Rentalic and it is great to see the concept is spreading around the world. We have received many requests asking us to launch in Australia. I am curious to know from the readers of this article, do you think this service would be of use to you in Australia? If so, which cities should we initially launch it in? Email us with your thoughts: info@rentalic.com

Hello Punsri. Thanks for your response. Your concept of renting within communities has really got us thinking and we hope that your networks continue to grow. It may be worthwhile to consider Australia's two largest cities as a starting point - that would mean Melbourne and Sydney. Of course, others may have different opinions ;)
