Precious paper

Intricate paper sculptures are taken to the next level by Taiwanese artist Mia Liu. These signature circular works have evolved over the past few years to become remarkably detailed examples of reuse transforming the mundane into something truly breathtaking.

Mia describes her process as a form of “free drawing”, where the works break through two dimensional constraints to become engaging installations. At every point, the source material itself plays a crucial role. Tickets collected from the Guggenheim Museum in New York and everyday baking paper are amongst the surprising elements that form her creative palette.

Reflecting upon the transformation that has taken place, Mia talks about taking inspiration from the material character and unique aesthetics of the support.
