Powerhouse making

There was a thrum in the air at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney, as 250 participants swarmed on makedo’s workshop in Turbine Hall. The energy and concentration that burst forth saw 115 diverse outcomes from six workshop sessions. Faced with a collection of reclaimed and recycled materials, people gathered together to explore their imaginations using makedo. Each group had 45 minutes to do their making, and the added incentive of a competition for the best creation pushed the boundaries even further.
You’ll find a link below that will take you to the top ten workshop creations.
Special mentions have to be made to recognise all of the creatures and characters. They each show such personality and you can really see the playful creativity in action.

We also liked how some groups were inspired by the airplanes suspended from the ceiling of Turbine Hall. This is where a number of Dads started to shine, guiding smaller hands through the tricky contours of many a flying machine.

It was great to see the way that families worked together; heads down, many hands connecting and manipulating.
In deciding the Top 10, our main consideration was the overall impact of the creation. Also noteworthy is the way materials have been used in clever combinations and forms. So with this in mind, a Top Ten gallery has been compiled. Be sure to click through to find out which creation is the overall winner.
