Mesmerising Television

Screens are a big part of our modern lives, they appear everywhere in some form or other. Information, images, entertainment and advertising scream for our attention from bright rectangles big and small.
For some time now, people have been subverting the messages coming from their home screens with devices such as the pixelator. From commercial solutions like the groovetube, down to a range of home-built outcomes… televisions all over are being transformed into ambient light objects.

The low-tech approaches use coffee cups, toilet rolls and cardboard boxes to create the pixels. Thin fabric or even paper then becomes a capped screen, and in a few easy steps these materials from the home recycle box become a dynamic light sculpture for the living room.
DIY instructions and user feedback can be found on the Craftster forum.
These really come into their own when seen in motion. Time to turn the volume down, and see the TV in a whole new light!
