Green Hackers

The guys at Tokyo Hackerspace are known for their clever thinking. It should therefore be interesting to see what happens when they turn their minds towards living more sustainably, with the establishment of a monthly Green Hackers meetup in Tokyo.

If you’re reading this, you are probably already convinced that it would be a good thing to make your own lifestyle more sustainable.

Goals have already been established, including living within 2000 watts,  garbage/waste reduction, and food production. There is also talk about setting a positive example for surrounding communities.

A key difference that these guys will bring to the table is that they plan to do all this without compromising on everyday comforts.

…it ain’t going to be easy. But we’re interested in trying.

Being Tokyo Hackerspace, taking the sustainable/green path does not mean that they will be going primitive. They plan to use every technological trick they can think of to make sure that sustainable = comfortable.
So whether it is building wireless sensors for the garden or custom solar lighting systems, Green Hackers meetings should provide a healthy mix of sharing/brainstorming and practical lessons and demos.

There is a meeting scheduled for December 18 at THS in Tokyo. Read all about it here.
