Everyday Instruments
Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 4:23 PM
Visitors to Melbourne’s Heidi Museum of Modern Art are in for a treat. Running up until November 14, 2010 is the Musique Povera collection and performances from local artist Dylan Martorell.

Dylan has a fantastic ability to turn pretty much anything into a musical instrument. He takes all manner of discarded everyday items, be they plastic, metallic or wooden, and transforms them into immersive sound-based installations and sculptures. Even organic (non-manufactured) materials are fair game. Sticks, stones, seed pods… if there is music in there, this guy knows how to bring it out.
His art re-imagines how the first instruments were constructed.
When there’s upcycling of found materials being used to facilitate playful performances… that’s music to our ears.
