Cup Fever

Stop for a chat with Sarah and Lou at florist Mr Lincoln and your conversation is likely to extend beyond the latest bulbs and blooms.  Approaching the industry with a determined eco-sound philosophy, it is easy to see why people keep coming back to this florist with a difference.

Re-use underpins processes from the calico wrapping (replacing traditional plastic and tissue papers) through to the playful window displays.   In support of Cup Day in Melbourne, a giant horseshoe made from collected coffee cups currently stands proudly in the front window.

Wander inside, and there is a toilet-roll heart that has been keeping the romance strong since Valentine’s Day.

The calico wrapping is a nice touch - ever mindful of waste and encouraging of reuse, Sarah and Lou use this natural biodegradable fabric to continue the sustainable conversation with their customers.  A little stamp on the corner of the fabric tells the customer to bring back the fabric for reuse or to make use of it themselves at home.   A bin sits behind the counter, full to the top with fabric people have returned - and Sarah has a long list of happy stories from others who have come in telling her what they’ve made with the fabric they kept.

Perhaps the strongest validation for this admirable approach is that the front window of the store hosts a constellation of finger marks from people big and small who have pressed up against the glass to admire the displays inside.

Visit the Mr Lincoln website for more info, or pop by yourself to squish your own face against the glass if you happen to be in the area.
