Bringing Light one litre at a time

We often feature inspirational reuse here on the makedo blog. They tend to be projects that are clever or witty, making the most out of items that others have thrown away.

Occasionally an example pops up that shows just how much lives can be changed by taking a resourceful approach to everyday materials. 

Established in the Philippines by Illac Diaz, Isang Litrong Liwanag (A Liter of Light) aims to bring light into the homes of over a million families by 2012.

The Solar Bottle Bulb was designed and developed by students from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and is based on the principles of Appropriate Technologies – a concept that provides simple and easily replicable technologies that address basic needs in developing communities.
