Automobiles from Busytown

Cardboard constructions are a great way to make your favourite stories come alive, and over at ikat bag, LiEr and her three girls have been busy creating their own Busytown.

It all began with a gently whispered request. Richard Scarry’s Busytown is an old favourite, and soon the other kids caught on. Chiming in with a gleeful exclamation of who gets to make Hilda’s car, and who gets Sally’s Scooter (pictured above), it wasn’t long before construction was well and truly underway.
As we are walked through the process, it quickly becomes evident that the cars were only the beginning.
Busytown continued to grow with the inclusion of seatbelts and keys; driver’s licences, roads, and even a fuel pump so that the cars can be refilled. A fantastic car wash followed (complete with tokens that you put in before entering) and - our favourite part - a fully functional traffic light.

The story is told in depth at ikat bag and LiEr’s pictographic mini construction tutorials mean that others can take these ideas further into their own homes… and Busytown will continue to come alive in new and wonderful ways.
